Ari Lennox
Courtney Shanade Salter, born March 26, 1991, often referred to professionally by the name Ari Lennox, hails from Washington, D.C. and was the first female to be signed for J. Cole's Dreamville Records label. On October 21, 2016 she dropped Pho, her first EP on the label Dreamville Records. This was when she began to gain recognition. Shea Butter Baby is her debut album. It was released in May 2019. Ari Lennox has uploaded her music on the internet since 2012, with the release of her debut mixtape "Five Finger Discount" and her EP Ariography. The year 2014 saw Ari Lennox continued to post her music online including her self-released single Bound. The 21st of July, 2015 was the day Omen featured her on his album Elephant Eyes on the track Sweat It Out. J. Cole was interested in her talent and wanted to work together with Rihanna. She was officially signed to Dreamville Records on 8 December. Backseat was a track was written by her and Cozz to record the collaboration album Revenge of the Dreamers II. The 21st of October, 2016, her Pho EP was released. Ari Lennox appeared in J. Cole's Change track, and performed on with the 4 Your Eyez Only Tour 2017. In 2018 she went on to guest feature on two songs with her label-mates EarthGang on Nothing but the Best and Bas on Icarus. Ari Lennox dropped her first song Whipped Cream off of Shea Butter Baby on July 16th. The music video was followed by a video in September. On the 9th of November she dropped two more singles, forty Shades of Choke as well as Grampa. The 13th of November, she came out with two additional singles, One and Pedigree. One as well as Pedigree. They then teamed up as a guest on the Creed II soundtrack with Cole on the track Shea Butter Baby on November 16 and released as a single on February 26 2019 to accompany her debut album with the same title. In February of 2019, a music clip was released for the song. The track has received nearly 3 millions views on YouTube within the initial week. In December 2018 the singer was a part of her From East Atlanta With Love Tour, which featured 6LACK.
